Your anonymous game session
When you load the daily game, the site creates a random session cookie. It links that browser to your daily guesses without asking for your name or email address. The game database stores a hashed session identifier, creation and expiry times, and your guesses, hint results, request identifiers, and submission times.
This information restores your progress after a refresh and applies the six-guess daily limit. The production cookie is named __Host-dailycostcodle, is restricted to HTTPS, and cannot be read by page JavaScript. It is set to last up to one year. The associated server session expires after one year; scheduled cleanup removes expired sessions and their guesses in batches.
Statistics stored on your device
Your completed-game statistics and theme preference use browser local storage. They stay in that browser and do not automatically sync between devices. If storage is unavailable, the game may be unable to retain these settings or statistics after you leave.
Clearing the site’s cookies disconnects that browser from its existing anonymous session; it does not immediately erase its server records. Clearing local storage removes the statistics and theme preference saved on that device. Private browsing can discard both when the private session ends.
Hosting, security, and fonts
Cloudflare hosts the site and database and provides security and request limiting. Delivering the site involves processing request information such as IP addresses, browser details, and requested URLs. Cloudflare’s handling of that information is described in its privacy policy.
The site loads typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser makes requests to Google’s font services. Those requests are subject to Google’s privacy policy. Your game guesses are sent to this site’s game service.
Google advertising
We use Google AdSense to support this site. When Google advertising services run, Google and its partners may use third-party cookies, web beacons, and other identifiers to deliver and measure ads, limit repeated ads, and detect fraud. These services may process information such as your IP address, browser and device details, and advertising requests.
Where permitted, Google and its partners may personalize advertising based on your previous visits to this site or other websites. You can manage Google ad personalization at Google Ads Settings. Your browser also provides controls for cookies. These controls may affect advertising without removing all ads.
